What vet do I take my pet to?

If approved, surgery appointments can be made with your existing veterinarian, Spay Neuter Northwest or most vet clinics in Whatcom County. If approved, we provide a list of our 15 vet clinic partners.

What exactly does Snip Snip Hooray pay for?

If approved, our program will pay for the spay or neuter surgery only.  This includes the actual procedure, IV/catheter/fluids and post-op pain meds.

Do you help feral cats?

The preferred, humane approach to managing feral cat populations is through a trap-neuter-return, or “TNR,” program.  The only TNR program in Whatcom County is through Spay Neuter Northwest. Please contact them directly to discuss your situation. They can be reached by email at spayneuternw@gmail.com

How old does my pet have to be in order to get fixed?

The typical age for spaying and neutering is around 4 to 6 months. For larger dog breeds, some vets suggest waiting until they’re a bit older, around 12 to 14 months, to allow for growth and development.  It is best to consult with your veterinarian to determine the ideal age based upon your pet’s specific needs and health.

What if my pet is already pregnant?

If you think your pet may be pregnant, it’s important to have her examined by a veterinarian as soon as possible.  They can confirm the pregnancy and discuss your options, including whether spaying is still possible at this time.  Depending on how far along she may be, the vet can provide guidance on what would be safest and healthiest for her.

Do you help with transport to the spay/neuter appointment?

We do not offer transportation to/from the appointment.
